Emergency
Lighting is designed to come on when there is a power failure.
Emergency Lighting is usually installed for
comfort
and convenience. But the more important reason for
installing an Emergency Light is for safety
reasons.
Emergency
Lighting provides lighting for escape routes in case of evacuation
of a building during a fire. It is this reason that building
fire-laws make it compulsory for all commercial
building to install Emergency Light.
Power
failure will happen during a fire. During a fire, the
surrounding is smoky and dark. It is not
bright as most of us would think so. What will happen if you
do not have emergency light installed and the occupants of the
building have
to evacuate in total darkness in a panicky situation within a minute
or two?
Types
of Emergency Light Fitting
Emergency
light fittings can be categorized into 3 main types as
follow:-
Maintained Emergency Lighting
An emergency lighting system in which the lighting lamp is in operation all the
time i.e the same lamp is lighted from the main power supply and
during a power failure.
Non-Maintained
Emergency Lighting
An emergency lighting system in which the lighting lamp is in operation only when there
is a power failure.
Sustained Emergency
Lighting
An emergency lighting system which contained two
lamps whereby one of the lamp is always lighted. One lamp is lighted
from the main power supply when supply is healthy and the other from the emergency battery
backup during a power failure.
